The story of Royal YUM dates back to 2011 in Dubai when our founder, a new mom at the time, was looking to make use of her time at home. Having cooked for her colleagues during her office job, she started offering lunchboxes delivered to offices under the brand Simply YUM. She would cook at home and personally deliver the food to offices, and quickly realized that her customers kept coming back for more. Seeing the potential for a food business, our founder had to make a decision. While longing for the camaraderie of colleagues and early morning office coffee, she ultimately chose to make use of her UNT degree and pursue a 9-5 with BASF.
Throughout her following 6 years at the world's largest chemical company, she consistently performed at the top 5% of the company's global workforce of 150,000 employees.
While visiting family in Texas during one of her bi-annual Christmas vacations in 2018, she stumbled upon Thai Ocha, a perfect fixer-upper that immediately caught her eye. At the time, she was growing restless in her job and feeling the limitations of a glass ceiling. The opportunity to take on a new challenge in the restaurant business was too good to pass up. Despite the challenges of running a business during the pandemic, she persevered and grew the restaurant's revenue from $600k to $1.3m, achieving a remarkable 27% profit margin along the way. The experience taught her valuable lessons about the restaurant industry and reinforced her passion for entrepreneurship.
After successfully building and selling Thai Ocha, our founder was ready to embark on a new adventure.
